When I am in a spin class for an hour, it is just hard to believe that after all that effort and movement, I haven’t actually gone anywhere. Sometimes people within organizations feel that way, too. I love being part of helping an organization create “change.” In our case, change means we are growing! We are meeting the needs of our customers, revenue goals, learning objectives, and overall making a difference. Our industry is changing patient outcomes and meeting the professional development needs of dedicated professionals in healthcare and other industries globally. Our mission is bubbling over into the lay rescue market where people are embracing these learning experiences and corporations are recognizing how to minimize risk and contain costs.
They banned our cell phones from the spin class so I had to wait to google “change agent” until after class. I found “What Makes a Good Change Agent?” at http://www.themanager.org/Strategy/change_agent.htm. Sometimes, a pulse check is in order. Scitent’s passion, conviction, and confidence in our clients are key ingredients in the recipe for our successful partnerships. I like to tell our clients that they should add Scitent as part of their “stimulus package.” According to Rosabeth Moss Kanter, existing patterns of thinking and existing assumptions about the organization, its markets, customers, and relationships have to be challenged. Moss Kanter provides a great summary of the characteristics of good change agents when she writes that the most important things a leader can bring to a changing organization are passion, conviction, and confidence in others.
